Normally I would not start a G0FundMe for frivolous purchases, especially with so much going on right now but ... damn this is tempting! I’m sure work is needed but this is a future strong classic!

Ok Opponauts, I call a CL scavenger hunt!

Those need an engine swap, from what I was told by a Ferrari guy they are a mess and cost a fortune to fix.

It
has a GM transmission, so LS swap :o)

I like these cars a lot, but this has money pit potential. I’d be very afraid of any Ferrari that just needs a “good engine service” and “paint on some of the panels”. Somehow I am sensing about 5 0K in needs. If someone won’t invest a couple hundred bucks to get a battery to start a car they want 36K for, that also sets off an alarm for me. On the positive side, the interior is better than expected. A grey market car, this may also have issues with CA emissions, not sure about elsewhere. For the brave.
Fun quirk, the automatic ones had GM transmissions.
Speaking of unloved Ferraris, I’ve always liked these:

That ad is one long string of red flags.

Ferrari used Bosch K-Jet? Huh.

For someone with the cash you offer $25 - 28K, put in $40K on the specialist needs and DIY the minor stuff. For $65K you have a Radwood hero and $30 -40K profit even in this market.

I think those 6 figure sales (not asking) prices are for literally perfect cars with original finishes. I suspect a repaint is a deduction.
Maybe buy it for 30K, but paint will need to be perfect for enthusiast resale (probably 20K+ right there) , and engine work is mostly for the specialist (20K absolute minimum) . One might break even, not counting the time needed to coordinate repairs. It could be a very good driver though, I think this would be good to keep rather than flip.

Ooh Ferrari V12!
Oh, GM Turbo 400 3 speed slushbox.
I can see the 3 pedal cars being big $ someday but not this one.

Like 20,000 maybe

Im very wary of not starting the motor cause he doesn’t have a battery. Get a damn battery and start the car! No reason for that talk on CL unless there’s something else going on.
T hirty grand if you ever need an overhaul. Same motor in the Daytona’s with injection now....that Italian 80s reliability injection.

I’d try for it, show up with cash and see what happens. On a car like this, you want to be in for the lowest initial investment possible, as the future costs could be virtually infinite.

Just a knowledge of what's in store makes it hard for me to get excited about this car even on a fantasy level. Though it certainly is a curiosity...

As I get older and less enthusiastic about such things, I am more willing to spend more, buy someone else’s finished project, as they will still likely lose their shirt, and the footwork will be already done for me.

Same. Just not this one.

I’d have to win a Powerball, and even then it would be way down on my list.

If I had the dough to blow on a car, it would be a Cadillac CTS-V four-door with a Rousch kit. And even with Powerball money, I’d buy one a couple of years old and get it modded.

This would be a keeper for me if I had the cash. Definitely take the engine to a specialist. The transmission is GM-sourced so an easier/cheaper item to manage. Definitley a daily driver - at least until they start going up in price.
Another way to go is swap in an LSX/modern drivetrain for DD duties and keep the original engine/tran smission clean and ready to go for sale purposes.

With the market we’re probably coming into for used cars, you might not need to be a Powerball winner to do that. YOLO :)

I guess I won’t be selling the Vic anytime soon.

If it is one’s absolute dream car, it could be a worthy long term project. Do a temporary engine swap and maybe rebuild the original with a sympathetic specialist who will give instruction, as a learning experience. Get it to driver status and do things over many years. There are worse ways to spend money .

Depending on the price, the Trump Checks might help it sell.
